Kunsthaus Graz is an institution for contemporary art and an architectural landmark that was built in 2003 when Graz was European Capital of Culture. Its blob-like architecture stands out starkly in the otherwise historical cityscape of Graz. The unusual biomorphic forms of its walls make Kunsthaus Graz a very distinct exhibition space, one that is far from the standards of a white cube. Kunsthaus Graz is commonly called Friendly Alien, a nickname coined by the building’s designers, Peter Cook and Colin Fournier.
