A busy meeting place for all writers, publishers, and readers from Graz, the Literaturhaus gives the impression that it has always been located in the former Palais Malm-Melnhof with its Neo-Baroque façade, grand entrance, and warm, wood-paneled rooms. In fact, it only moved here in the early 2000s (replacing the now defunct Kulturhaus), when Graz was enjoying the perks of being the European Cultural Capital. At that time an annex was added to the 19th-century building; the ultramodern glass and concrete pavilion, designed by Riegler Riewe in 2003, is hidden until the visitor moves deeper into the premises and serves as a space for discussions and readings.
