Katharina Ernst & Christina Kubisch

Doublé
Concert

When Katharina Ernst and Christina Kubisch got to know each other in 2016, it was a meeting of kindred spirits. Both work in the fields of music and art. Undercurrents resulted from this encounter, the first work for drums and electromagnetic sound composed by Kubisch, who in the early 2000s had developed a set of earphones with built-in induction coils that attract electromagnetic fields and make them audible through amplifiers and speakers. For musikprotokoll the two artists developed a second joint work, the commission Interference, which uses a test version of the computer program BeatSeeker. What sets the rhythm are Ernst’s drums, not Kubisch’s recordings of the electromagnetic sounds of various security barriers. In this case, the machines do not control people; people control the machines.
