Throughout its eventful history, Graz’s Orpheum has been known as a venue for light entertainment for the masses. It was used as a tavern, had an indoor spa, and was a venue for variety theater. After its destruction during World War II and subsequent reconstruction, it became a cinema and later a youth center. Its eventful history is also tangible in its current architectural layout. A portico supported by Doric columns and crowned by a spacious balcony lends character to the exterior. Inside, a traditional proscenium theater awaits the visitors. A series of pragmatic renovations undertaken over the decades mask the simple 1950s elegance it must have once possessed. However, they also provide for the flexibility that today makes Orpheum one of the most versatile locations for cabaret, concerts, performance, theater, and more.
